The Federal Trade Commission slapped Saint Nick with a $2 million fine for violating children’s privacy with his naughty or nice list.

For nearly 2,000 years, the jolly old elf tracked children’s consumer behavior; stored their name, age and address on an unsecured database; and shared the information with third parties to fulfill the children’s Christmas wishes.

It was time for the regulatory agency to take a stand, reported journalist Jeff Jarvis on his personal blog.

“According to unconfirmed reports, he has gone so far as to invade children’s homes in the dead of night,” said FTC Chair Jon Leibowitz. “He has done this on a broad scale, unchallenged by government authorities for too long.”

Saint Nick—whose aliases include Santa Claus, Kris Kringle, and Father Christmas—said through his North Pole spokesman that he would continue his Christmas mission of joy:

“What’s the worst they can do to me?” Santa asked. “Cookie me?”
